The Design Home presented by the Edmonton Journal

There certainly isn’t a shortage of things to do at this year’s Edmonton Home + Garden show. One of the features that you should be sure not to miss is the Design Home presented by the Edmonton Journal.

Design Home

Visitors can tour the 1,000 sq.ft. showhome featuring 2016’s latest trends in both design and decor and be inspired by the fresh ideas in custom cabinetry, trendy furniture, home accessories and lighting design.

The custom built home, furnished by Reside Furnishing, landscaped by RCLcanada Landscape Contractors and Supply, and designed by Rosalyn Lazaruk of Wicket Blue Interiors allows you to interact with new products, speak face-to-face with the experts and take home ideas for your next renovation.

Rosalyn Lazaruk has been working in design and decor for over a decade and she understands the intimate relationship of design and self-expression and is devoted to developing and implementing unique design ideas that reflect the vision and individuality of her clients.

“[In the Design Home] I have incorporated some bold elements into a very small space, showing that you don’t have to have 10 foot ceilings and 3000 square feet to have fun with your decor,” says Rosalyn.

The evolution of the design started simply with the wallpaper that is featured in the living room of the home. Rosalyn likes to take inspiration from textiles and wallpaper and let the overall design of the space develop through those details.

“We are seeing a lot of geometric pattern again this season, but more faceted rather than controlled, as we have seen in the past,” says Rosalyn. “We, of course, are seeing a lot more pastels in our decor which I think is a beautiful compliment to the neutral gray and white interiors we have seen a lot of.”

Rosalyn’s top four design tips that will hopefully help inspire you with your next home renovation include:

  1. Make a full list of wants and needs for every space, it will help you prioritize what needs to get done when.
  2. Start with a budget number in mind and work from there. I often have clients that haven't thought of budget there is no doubt that you are going to exceed it if you don't know where to start!
  3. Make an inspiration board! I still use the old fashioned magazine and bulletin board method but websites like Pinterest & Houzz are awesome as well. Include photos of all sorts of things that inspire you, it will help you narrow down your design and decor style!
  4. Consult a professional! Even if you are planning on doing part or all of the project yourself, hiring a professional for an initial consultation can get you on the right path and help you avoid making a lot of mistakes.

Be sure to keep these tips in mind when touring through the Design Home!

Rosalyn will be presenting on the Main Stage presented by the Brick and Edmonton Journal, talking about all things fabulous in lifestyle and design in YEG! Catch her Friday, March 18 at 6 p.m., and Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
